Ok folks,

I freely admit I´m an idiot when it comes to this kind of stuff. But I think I finally got it figured out.

So, please, by this Friday please write about the following on our new blog:

1. In two or three sentences, describe your paper topic.

2. In one good, concise sentence, write a POSSIBLE thesis statement. That is, one clear sentence that describes your main argument (so far--remember this will probably change as you continue to work)

Thanks for your patience

Joe

  1. My paper is going to be focused on motivation, but especifically on why students are not motivated and also what can teachers do to motivate students.

My thesis statement is: Teachers must pay attention on students real life interests.

I think that nowadays this is a really common problem and sometimes it is difficult to solve it. That`s why I want to talk about this in my paper.

  2. My paper is going to be about the necessity of planning a lesson. The main aim of this paper is to realize why teachers don't plan their lessons and, if it is possible, I would like to find a possible solution to this big issue.

My possible thesis statement is: "Planning is the most important part in teaching, in order to don't lose the objective of the class. If teacher don't have a clear objective for the class, it will become a mess. Also there will be wasted time and the result of this is that students don't learn what they should be learning in their classes.

  3. Hi,

Before to make my comments on the topic which I'm going to write for my paper, I'd like to tell you that I'm really excited with the idea to write this paper, because I think that allows us to have an opportunity to write about an educational topic of our own interests in order to practice our writing for our future Tesina which is going to be written next year.

In relation to my paper I will write about "Motivation in the Classroom".
The decision why I have chosen Motivation in the Classroom, depend on larger questions I am beginning to ask myself about my own experience with self motivation in order to have success as a student and also has to do with what I've been seen in my work experience.

My Thesis Statement: Motivation is the key element of success and fulfillment.

    Thank You,

    See you in Class...

    Victoria Pino Ruiz.

  4. Hi mister!

In this paper I am going to talk about today's education and what is happening with teachers, students and schools in general.

I would like to talk about themes like; Teacher-centered class an how it is among us, Schools as companies and how this affect poor schools, grammar translation method and the use of mother tongue in the classroom and class management. The idea is to critize and give some ideas of how would teachers change this reality.

and my thesis statement would be... "Students don't want to go to schools because their are not being part of their own construction of knowledge".

    thanks a lot,
any suggestion please let me know I will appreciate it!!

    See ya 2morro

  5. argument paper will be about teachers’ prejudices about students and how those prejudices affect students’ learning process. I will focus on adolescents because they are developing their identity and self- image. One of the most common prejudice is “students are lazy”
My possible thesis statement would be “we, as future teachers, need to address teachers’ prejudices negatively affect students learning”.
I’m not so sure about my thesis statement, so if someone could help me I will be thankful for it.

On the other hand my thesis statement is : "psicopedagogists play an important role inside many schools. They work with problematic students and persons with disabilities, in order to intergrate them to the comunity. We should have one in every school.

  7. My paper is basically about the authority in schools. I will introduce by defining what authority is. I will also go through the reason why teachers overuse their power over their students. My idea is to criticize the traditional clssroom and to invite to have an open-minded perspective towards education. Regarding my thesis statatement, I think it will be something like this " Teachers should not overuse their authorithy over students because this increase the gap between them instead of getting them closer"
    Hope you like it..

  8. My essay will be about the overuse of power from teachers towards students inside the classroom. I will tell the chilean history of education, in other words, the problem we have been dealing with from many years ago. How it affects students learning process and its consequences.

My concern is that teachers should reduce their overuse of power or authority towards students.

    Bless up.

  9. Ok folks: these are good ideas. Obvioulsy some of you are writing on similar topics, which is fine--talk to each other to share ideas, sources, etc. Obviously your papers will be different, but it's good to see what others are doing.

authority seems to be a major theme in many papers, so we'll try to discuss this more in class. It's definately a theme that still needs a lot of attention in teh world of education. Motivation too, which is connected to the issue of authority (for example, if the the teacher has all teh authority and just lectures, etc, students probably feel less motivated to take responibility for their education and really learn on thier own).

One general comment that applys to everyone: your thesis statement, which guides your paper as a whole, should be phrased as an argument. That is, it should state something that you believe we need to do/change, and then the rest of your paper works to support that statement to persuade your audience that you are Right!

This applys to most, but I'll just take one example here. Daniela, you need to state clearly in your thesis statement somewhere that teachers in Chile (or whereever)are not spending enough time planning their lessons, and this must change because (as you said) it is extremely important. Then , your next sentence could be something like, "This paper will explore this problem and suggest some possible solutions." It doesn't have to be exactly that, of course, but it should state a problem or an issue and then tell the reader (in clear terms) what exactly you propose to fix it, or at least attempt to fix it.

Ok. We'll talk more about this in class. But this is important, because the rest of your paper should work to support your thesis statement--that is to say, your main argument.

    See you tomorrow.

    Cheers

    Joe

  11. My paper will deal with vulnerable students' resistance at public schools and how can teachers overcome this fact.

the possible thesis statement is that vulnerable students' resistantce is mainly teachers fault because of the consequences of their actions inside the classroom. This has created the resistance.
